When faced with this industry-wide challenge, Full-Metal-Power stepped in with a solution that could handle high-temperature, scale-heavy geothermal wells without relying on chemicals. Our metal-to-metal motor technology was deployed to bring these wells back to full capacity.

The Challenge

Geothermal wells often suffer from intense scale buildup that restricts flow and reduces output. Chemical descaling has its limits, particularly in the extreme temperatures common in geothermal settings, making it ineffective or impractical. What the industry needed was a resilient, mechanical approach that could withstand the heat and clear blockages to keep production at full capacity.

The Full-Metal-Power Solution

In 2020-2021, Full-Metal-Power’s high-temperature coiled tubing motors were deployed for descaling operations. Designed for durability and heat resistance, these metal-to-metal motors used water, nitrogen, or compressed air to drive rapid, chemical-free scale removal. This intervention brought three major advantages:

  • 3x Faster Scale Removal: Achieved a penetration rate of 37 meters per hour, drastically reducing time per well.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: The motor’s heat resistance eliminated the need for well quenching, cutting downtime and operational costs.
  • Increased Output: Restored and boosted production by over 7 MW across two geothermal wells.

Results

Full-Metal-Power’s motor technology restored these scaled geothermal wells to full functionality, proving that sustainable, mechanical solutions can thrive in high-temperature environments. With minimal downtime and maximized output, this project underscored the strength of metal-to-metal interventions over conventional chemical methods.
